The City of Boston, as well as the State as a whole, is in a severe housing crisis especially for those most vulnerable. The poverty rate of Seniors in Dorchester is 21.4%, with the overall median income of seniors in Dorchester being less than $50,000.00 a year. However, based on cost-of-living data, a Senior would need an income at a minimum of $80,000 per year to live comfortably in the city of Boston.
In order to begin to address the need for affordable housing for seniors, this project will provide 45-50 units of one-bedroom apartments for low to moderate income seniors aged 62 and over. CSNDC will work with Bay Cove Human services to provide supportive services to help residents age in place comfortably. CSNDC is working with architecture firm Utile, Inc.
CSNDC has started to engage community leaders and other stakeholders to discuss this project.
