Earlier this week, members of the Fairmount Indigo Transit Coalition (FITC) were pleased to meet with Keolis Commuter Services CEO Abdellah Chajai for an update on the Fairmount Line Decarbonization Program and all the work being done in preparation for electrification of the line.
Keolis Commuter Services, in partnership with the MBTA, is implementing battery-electric multiple unit (BEMU) trains on the Fairmount Line in Boston. This initiative, part of a larger $54 million plan, aims to modernize the commuter rail system by introducing cleaner, more efficient, and quieter train service. The BEMU trains will utilize a hybrid system, combining battery power with overhead catenary charging.
The FITC is a coalition of 11 organizations fighting for transit equity along the Fairmont Line. CSNDC’s Marilyn Forman (striped shirt, middle) is co-chair of the FITC.
